New Years Eve 2012. 11:41 PM - Russ signs off the Motorola Mobility network for the last time.
That means I am done consulting.
It does not mean I am done with Domino. More on that in a later post.
For sixteen years I was the sole Notes/Domino guy supporting the Motorola Law Department (or some version of Motorola...they've gone through a lot of changes). I did everything. Administration, training, development. It was a fantastic experience. Not only did I have a free hand as far as Domino was concerned, the engagement (yes, I was an independent consultant the entire time) gave me the opportunity to work with some really smart people and, even more importantly, to develop a lot of applications for an extremely demanding set of users in a unique environment with very forward looking goals. Many of the applications I developed were groundbreaking in the legal industry and some are still state of the art today even though we deployed them years ago.
Was it all peaches and cream? Uh, no. But it truly was a professional watershed for me, I am thankful for the opportunity and I am looking forward to the future with high hopes as I continue with my next step.
Here's a little free advice to all the 30-somethings out there:
Stay positive about your future. You never know where life is going to take you. I made a single phone call in June, 1996, and the consulting work didn't stop until yesterday. Sixteen years later!
For those who are wondering...I essentially got, uh, non-renewed by Procurement and Google but that is a story for another post, possibly, or more likely over beer.
